I posted this question on LinkedIn and got the responses below. I’m working on the new issue of The Pergola which is focused on the topic of business travel. What would be your favorite tip about business travel that I wouldn’t hear from most people?

Tip: Arrive promptly after your flight while looking & smelling fresh!
Fly with no make-up on, and bring face soap, tooth brush/paste, make-up, deodorant/baby powder, and change of shirt in your carry-on (plus a business outfit & undies in the case your luggage does not arrive). Once landed, go immediately to a non-crowded restroom and wash face, brush teeth, apply make-up, change shirt– if you’re speedy, the luggage will just be coming out on the carousel when you arrive. *When travel is international, I suggest getting through customs as quickly as possible instead– use the restroom after you are cleared or while on the plane.

I would travel for a living. Water and no coffee the day you fly in and out is key.

be caffeine free then when you need to stay awake a cup of coffee will do the trick. Also, make sure you eat in the time zone where you are even if you are not hungry. eating helps reset your body clock.

Upgrade whenever possible, especially for red eye flights. This allows for the possibility of resting before arrival.
